Twitter.com is one of the world’s largest social networking and blogging sites in the world. I like to think of Twitter as the world’s largest text messaging site. The reason why I think of it as a text messaging site is because they only allow you to post up to 140 characters (letters) per post, similar to texting.
Twitter.com has over 200 million users per year and over 1.6 million searches per day. You cannot afford to not have a Twitter account. Twitter also integrates with a number of other services like WordPress.com and Blogger.com which will allow you to display your ” tweets” (Twitter posts) for your followers. Followers are people who agree to receive whatever you post on their twitter home page.
Twitter.com has a very easy signup process similar to Facebook.com’s signup process. Fill out the basic information and then click the gold button labeled “Sign up”.
After you fill out all of your personal information, click create account. That’s it. Once you have the account page open, fill out all of your personal profile info. Twitter gives people fast access to information about you 24/7. The more you post the more information pops up on your followers pages. This is great if you have content that people actually want to know about.
The rest of the setup is pretty simple. Navigate over to design and select a template you like and that’s it. Of course you can get more detailed templates online or can create your own if you know how. The purpose of this section is to make you aware of the importance of Twitter and make sure you have an account. Please sign up if you have not. You are going to need your account to complete a final project at the end of the book.
