Myspace.com (Why You Still Need a Myspace Page)

I know what some of you are thinking: Do I still need a MySpace page? Yes!  What if that one client or one business connection accidently came across your MySpace page? What if you are an artist of some sort be it music, computers or canvas? You’ll want to create a MySpace page and link it to your main website. Although search engines like Google and Yahoo used to base people on how many links were linked to them that’s not the case anymore. It’s based on true traffic. So make sure your content is worth posting and linking. Make sure your MySpace page is tasteful. Remember, it’s just another base you’re covering and nothing more. Also, check out these groups and see what’s out there.

Over the last five years MySpace has changed its look and is now more like Facebook. In as little as two years MySpace was jungle. Myspace.com eventually started to scare people away. Not to mention, Facebook.com opened its doors to everyone not, just college students in 2007-2008. That was a huge game changer for MySpace which ultimately contributed to its decline in popularity. It’s safe to say that MySpace is now a safer and more family friendly place than it was when I was in college.

I’m going to take you through the sign up process like I did with the other sites. Make sure you fill out everything and/or sign in with your Facebook account.  Click the sign up button at the top of the MySpace home page. This should take you to the screen you see below.

This next screen allows you to spread the word about what you’re doing. This is cool because it’s like free email marketing. MySpace is going to tell everyone in your contacts about what you’re doing. If you have your business together let them know. If not, don’t waste your contacts and friends time.

Make sure you fill out absolutely everything you can about yourself or whatever you’re marketing. I personally paste everything from a Word file or a Google Doc that I type ahead of time. Remember you want Google and Yahoo to like you so the more information the better. Both search engines absolutely hate fake, fly by night web pages so make sure you have plenty of content and remember content is king.

If you have video or mp3 podcasts, make sure you upload them. I personally love the ability to upload video and photos on any site. That’s just one more places where you can potentially find one more interested person.
